Like every year Aashansh celebrated 15th August with great enthusiasm with the footballer team at Aashansh. We made children go around with smileys and create smily moments with anyone they find on the stereet. It was fun to see all of them jumping at one person and then learning to not do that. It was so good to see them not knowing what to say to make someone smile but slowly with couple of experiences, they doing it so well that people started blessing the students. Below are some snapshots of what we did :)

I personally dont believe in the word NGO or in the concept of Aashansh standing out as an NGO and competing with the worldwide organisation outside but have to do as world demands it. People keep asking whats new about Aashansh as compared to others. Is it even necessary to stand out in the crowd to make change happen?

Aashansh is just a name and beneath lies the real concept of change which few of the NGO's truly want to make it happen. One such concept changed one life at Aashansh at worli community of street dwellers and trust me, the life of entire family changed.

Name: Murli Kharvi

Age: 21years

City: Mumbai

Murli Kharvi was born and brought up in Mumbai. Murli has studied up to 2nd Grade. He later joined a night school to complete his school education. Murli regularly attends a Youth Program conducted by Aashansh on Sundays and he has been one of the most promising guys from the community. He is now serving as a facilitator in an organization in Mumbai and soon would be signing as one of the trustees of the organization.

Murli is today mentored by one of Aashansh’s amazing mentors; Mr. Narayan Jaisingh. He is currently working as facilitator and serving as community leader in the community Aashansh works with. He is currently sees as ‘Murli bhaiya’ and not a local bully.

Earlier Life

Murli studied up to 2nd grade and later on got him-self enrolled into a Night school and gave his 10 th Grade examination in 2014 -15. He stays with his family on pavement of Worli. He used to consume gutka, alcohol and smoke too with his friends!

He never attended a proper schooling post 2nd grade and hence his parents made him discontinue his school. His mother sells Indian spices and is not just enough to feed a family of 12 people. His father is alcoholic and most of the time stays unemployed. Looking at the situation of Family, he started working as housekeeping in a company near to his place. He just wanted to provide financial support to his family.

Whenever there use to be Aashansh session happening on street by Ramesh while Ramesh was struggling to set up the organization, he use to bully around and try to disturb the class. He was very mischievous. His friends were and are serious drug addicts, consume alcohol and gutka. They all are either employed as a housekeeping or keep looking for entry level jobs and stay non committed to the jobs.

Miracle that happened which changed his life completely:

Aashansh foundation started a “YOUTH PROGRAM” to support the boys from the community and get a change in their life, be self-reliant and inspire others in the community for similar desire to make change happen. This program was started with a simple aim to help the youth of the community to make their life better and be a better person. Initially in the Youth program there were only 5 boys, who really wanted to change their life and Murli was one of those 5 Boys. As the days past away the strength shoot up to 15 youths who sincerely wanted to change their life and be a change for the society.

Murli enrolled himself in a night school in Worli. He use to travel to sub urban Mumbai get guided by his Mentor Riya and seek fruitful help in school studies on weekends.

Despite of his own busy schedule he managed mentorship, work, family, school, self-study and Youth Program.

He could experience a change in himself by attending the YOUTH PROGRAM regularly. All he could think was about studies and dreaming about being in an office and having a laptop to work on. During initial days of him getting himself change, he found himself so confusing. He did not understand what was he doing and his change was painful for him due to him mental status. He somehow appeared for 10th grade exams and he is positive about results.

Murli’s Dream

Murli’s dream is to become a professional have his own office space and have a spacious apartment in Mumbai. He wants to help his peer and other people in the community to change their life too the way he changed his life.

Currently Murli is working with an organization as a facilitator and will soon be one of the trustees in same organization. His siblings, friends and other people in the community see him as an inspiration. He will be soon moving out Pavement and rent a small house for his family.

Murli is an inspiration to his younger brother and sister today and because he has taken responsible control over his siblings, they also are super dedicated to change their life and Aashansh is just being with them to nurture their dreams and help them make it into reality.

We are surely excited to bring one more story next week but we expect some excitement from your end also to support the concept of change. Do get in touch with us you lovely people if you wish to see Aashansh creating more stories in short span of long run. We are currently working with 15 youth and 40 children and envision to reach out to 50 youth and 100 children by the end of 2016.

Special thanks to all beautiful people who stood by Aashansh and were with Aashansh even at times of our down and when we made mistakes. We are hungry for more change.

Best

Connect us to buy some amazing art made by kids and their parents at Aashansh:

Kids studying at Aashansh many times have to go to work to feed their family which leads them to loss of their childhood and get into the mindset of making money at a early age just to keep feeding their home. When they keep growing, due to lack of education, they keep switching their jobs as they are never able to find stability in their jobs and this is not just the story of kids at Aashansh but also their parents.

Due to the intervention of Aashansh in the community, people in the community have become aware of their rights and today they believe in letting their kids study. This attitude does not stay in the favor for longer run as they have to constantly find ways to feed their family and in the process even though they want to change their life circumstances do not allow them to do so.

We at Aashansh with the help of some amazing volunteers have taken an initiative to provide an alternate source of earning through creating art products and sell it.

We wish to partner with you all for the supplies to create such products for sale.

Hi everyone. We hope you'll take a moment to join in helping the "Aashansh" campaign reach its funding goal.

We the team at Aashansh wishes to reach our goal of reaching out to 100 kids by the end of 2016 and i truly believe that a small contribution of your can make a lot of difference by taking 40 kids in 2015 to 100 kids in 2016.

So we invite you to be a part of this journey to help children climb the ladder of opportunity by supporting Aashansh in its mission to provide children from unprivileged communities in India with the confidence and the knowledge to unlock the doors to social mobility through an experiential educational program and weekly mentorship sessions.

There are some creative and exciting perks available which you may want to explore and have more than a donor's relation with us.

Click here to support the online Aashansh fundraising campaign

Thank you!

There is no need for temples; no need for complicated philosophy. Our own brain, our own heart is our temple; the philosophy is kindness.

- Dalai Lama -

How does one become the founder of a happy moment or the founder of a moment that makes a difference in a person’s life?

Lets take a look at the snaps of what Aashansh foundation did in collaboration with Dr. V.N. Bedekar institute of management studies thane on 15th of August.

Although it’s a little delayed to share the pictures and apology for the same but could not resist without sharing these amazing moments which we created at Aashansh foundation with the kids.

We had 5 activities:

-       Random acts of kindness: Every individual had a some smiles with them and they had to simply make some people feel special or happy by doing random acts of kindness and they had to give one smiley to them as a token of appreciation for being JUST AMAZING.

-       Old age home: In an era where many of us get sick and tired of our own parents who took so good care of us and made us into a perfect human being, we start hating them just because of our attitude/ego/ideas mismatch/generation gap/so called coolness which we don’t see in them etc and many more reason created by our minds. The students at Aashansh foundation and Dr. V.N. Bedekar institute of management studies decided to go to an old age home and bring a smile on faces of such people who are bed ridden, who have lost their loved ones, who have been thrown out of their house, who are not taken care of by their children or who wish to stay there due to their many personal reasons. Aashansh café as an idea became that source of happiness and smile on such people’s faces at an old age home. We sang old 80s songs, we danced with them, celebrated freedom with them, made them go through a journey of two hours which made them forget their reality and just enjoy.

-       Art and creativity: This is so much fun when many of us has to just go on the street and pick someone of age between 18 to 30 and sit with them on their street of a convenient place and help them draw/paint/sketch their thoughts on a piece of paper and we did just that at Aashansh foundation in collaboration with students and faculty at Dr. V.N. Bedekar institute of management studies thane.

-       Live band: This is just an amazing activity, which touched every ones heart. Treblesome band takes all the credit for the amazing performance and touching everyones heart. Be it the tiniest chap or the middle aged person or a old man. The dedication by the band for Ramesh Joshi literally got tears in his eyes (yes, he went a little senti :p sorry Mr. MD :P haha). The dedication for Aashansh foundation, the happy birthday song sung for one of Aashansh’s amazing mentor Ashwini Pawar made her feel super special that each time she met the management team who was involved in making the event happen, she kept thanking them and said “This was the best birthday ever in my life and Aashansh made me super happy and I will never forget this day in my life ever”!! Isn’t it just amazing? Oh yeah.. The song sung by one of students Jeetal from Dr. V.N. Bedekar institute of management studies was just amazing. Kuddos to your voice Jeetal!!

-       Surprise activity: This looked like a challenge for all of us!! Fantastic! We (meaning participants) had to stand at a stalls such a wadapav, pop corn, tea stall, vegetable vendor etc and work in replacement of the person at the stall. WOW!! Sounds like a great deal! Would they be ok having outsiders working at their stall which study and doesn’t have any experience of it? Well to be honest, it was possible and we made it possible and we did everything right from getting raw material, making it, learning and selecting proper profit margin for stall owner, we learnt to budget a small road size business and we made good profit for the owner so that owner can GO home and rest and spend time with family! And it happened. Cheers to the team and who took up the challenge.

Last but not the least, we at Aashansh foundation would like to thank Dr. V.N. Bedekar institute of management students and faculty, Aashansh mentors, Treblesome band, Aashansh team, Aashansh students, media and people who turned up outside of Aashansh foundation and made this even a successful one. Aashansh has given me a platform to execute my creativity, intellectual skills and be more passionate about my vision to bring about a change in my self and see education in a different way and make it more accessible and interesting for Aashansh kids.

I feel fortunate to be here and its so amazing to see and explore the talent that every child has. I am here to ensure that every child achieves its goals and this is what our team is working towards through its regular experiential education program and weekly mentorship sessions to provide confidence and knowledge to unlock the doors to social mobility.

I am really happy that we have an excellent team who is mentoring kids, its really credible to have got an opportunity to work with such dynamic, young, professional and passionate team at Aashansh.

highly recommended for people looking for a journey of change.

Holla freunde,

b2ap3_thumbnail_IMG-20140619-WA0001.jpg

Meet Neha. One of our success stories. Neha lives on streets of Mumbai at worli mahakali nagar. Neha stays with her bua (aunt), her brother and one sister. Neha's aunt and dad doesnt have stable jobs, no proper supply of fresh drinking water, no electricity most of the time and many more issues she faces every day.

BUT

She and her entire family is so passionate about her studies. She told her mentor that she wanted to get into an english medium school and her mentor went out of her way to get her admitted in a new english medium school. All thanks to Shilpa, who is Aashansh board of director and an amazing mentor to Neha and her sister to make such a difference in their lives. Neha today is seen with a wining spirit in her eyes, a confidence in her body language, she differentiates herself from the people in the community and specially other children who she finds loitering around or have nothing to do.

Neha, Roshni and Shilpa are on their journey to unearth hidden potential, build on existing ones and making a difference.

Merci :)

Dear Aashansh friends,

We would like to thank everyone for coming to our event and helping make the evening such a huge success. We managed to exceed our target, which is fantastic and will secure the education of our children for the near future. It is events like this when we see everyone coming together, united by a good cause, that help us to believe in a much brighter future for all the children at Aashansh where our mission is to 'Provide children from underprivileged communities with the confidence and knowledge to unlock the door to social mobility through weekly mentorship sessions and an experiential educational program.

Thank you so much to all once again for the very kind support. It really does make a big difference. Feel free to connect with us to sponsor a child/children at Aashansh or to mentor children at Aashansh.

Cheers and regards,

Aashansh | Climbing the ladder of opportunity, together
